CARDBOARD
How
is it re-cycled?
Cardboard
is one of the most straightforward materials to re-cycle. At our premises
it is sorted & baled into "mill sized bales", which
weigh about half a tonne each. When there are enough bales to make
a load they are delivered to a board mill, where the bales are broken
& stirred in water to create pulp, then rolled & dried to
be formed into new cardboard.
What
can be re-cycled?
Corrugated
brown cardboard is easily recognised, but printed cardboard, such
as
cereal & frozen food packaging, electrical
goods boxes etc, can all be re-cycled.
What
causes problems with re-cycling?
Materials
which are not cardboard, such as expanded polystyrene & other loose
fill materials, polythene & various plastics, not only cannot be
re-cycled into cardboard, but if included may cause the board mill to
reject the whole load, which may then have to go to landfill. This means
manually removing such materials for disposal. Not only does this increase
the cost of baling the cardboard, but also creates an additional cost
for the waste disposal.
In
addition materials such as glass, electrical goods, timber, food waste
etc not only cannot be re-cycled into cardboard, but present a health
& safety hazard to our staff.
How
can I re-cycle my cardboard?
Either
bring it to our premises - there is a cage at the gateway where you
can place it at anytime, or we can collect it from you for a small
charge - please contact us for details.
We
can provide rollcages for hire to store cardboard. If you produce
larger quantities of cardboard we can provide demountable bins.
